Artist Statement

I love capturing moments with my camera. A moment in time that possibly only lasts a fraction of a second can be memorialized and used to convey emotion, passion, stillness, action, solitude and so much more. Most of my photography consists of moments in nature; a flying black skimmer dipping its unique bill into the ocean, a blue heron catching a fish, or the tranquil sunrise over the Southern Ocean. Using only the sense of sight, I strive to convey all the other senses stimulated by being present in that special moment.

Although nature photography was my first artistic passion, I discovered that I’m just as enthusiastic capturing moments of human joy, such as band members losing themselves in a musical moment on stage, or someone in the flow of work that inspires them and sharing their story of hope and inspiration.

My Shift to Conservation Photography and Biographical Storytelling

Being a nature enthusiast and world traveler, I’ve been exposed to the wisdom teachings of indigenous cultures around the world. I’m drawn to the use of imagery to bring attention to conservation issues and the people who take action to address them. I endeavor to maintain a positive approach to this kind of biographical storytelling; to celebrate the personal and organizational triumphs and beliefs for a better future, while bringing attention to the issues, their causes, and most importantly, their solutions. All with a click of my shutter and the desire to create inspiring, world-class imagery.
